My success story began in 2015. I was a single mother, working a fast food job and I saw no future in what I was doing. I found out that I was pregnant in April of 2015, and I was forced into quitting my job for health reasons. During my pregnancy, I decided that I wanted to go back to school. I knew I had to give my three sons a better life, but that was impossible working the jobs I qualified for.
After giving birth in December of 2015, I learned that registration at Pamlico Community College was scheduled for the following month. After taking the necessary steps to get registered, I was officially on the road to accomplish something that I’ve always dreamed of doing. With the help of wonderful instructors and staff at Pamlico Community College, I sailed through the first five semesters with minimal obstacles; but my last semester turned out to be the most trying. In September of 2018, my family lost everything. Hurricane Florence was devastating for me. My family and I had to stay with friends and family because we had nowhere to call our own anymore. Amid the uncertainty of our living situation, I still had to make school a priority and I did. Soon, I will be a college graduate with the world at my fingertips.
