The Republic of Botswana Learns about the N.C. Community College System
The Ambassador from the Republic of Botswana received a high-level introduction to the N.C. Community College System (NCCCS) today at the System Office. The engagement of Ambassador Onkokame K. Mokaila was to further forge relationships, identify collaboration opportunities and exchange reciprocal understanding of North Carolina’s education system. This engagement is a result of the Memorandum of Principles and Procedures between the State of North Carolina and the Republic of Botswana signed in August 2015.
Thomas Stith, president of the N.C. Community College System, gave the distinguished guest an overview, pointing out that the unified higher education system welcomes more than 350,000 students to our 58 community colleges serving all 100 counties in the state. He also talked about how the system partners with business and industry to train a skilled workforce to fuel the economic engine of North Carolina.
“The Community College System provides open doors to educational opportunities for all people,” said Thomas Stith, NCCCS president. “This engagement with the Republic of Botswana provides opportunities to grow and develop our relationship in the educational space.”
The Ambassador also received information about North Carolina’s education system with presentations from Catherine Truitt, superintendent of the N.C. Department of Instruction, and Dr. Thomas Walker, senior advisor for economic development and military affairs for the University of North Carolina System.
