Statement on the 2015-17 State Budget
RALEIGH – The following is a joint statement from State Board of Community Colleges Chairman Scott Shook and Interim System President George Fouts regarding the proposed 2015-17 State Budget released earlier today:
“In its 2015-17 budget, the NC General Assembly responded to each of the NC Community College System’s priorities and, by doing so, offers strong support to our students, our faculty, our staff and our business partners. Legislators clearly recognized the value and opportunity offered by our community colleges by funding salary increases with local flexibility to help retain quality faculty and staff, supporting classes year-round to allow our students a shorter time to reach completion and to help our colleges better meet business employment needs, providing much-needed dollars for updated equipment, and instituting a new career coaching program that will help build the pipeline for hard-to-fill jobs as well as successful career pathways for our students. This level of support reflects the vital role our community colleges play in our state’s economic and workforce development, and we thank the General Assembly leaders and members for their continued recognition and appreciation of that role.”
