State Board of Community Colleges Names Interim College of the Albemarle President, Appoints Vice-President of Economic Development and State Director of Small Business Center Network
RALEIGH – The State Board of Community Colleges approved the selection of RALEIGH – The State Board of Community Colleges approved the selection of Kennon Briggs as the Interim President of College of The Albemarle, replacing Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer, who will begin her tenure as the new president of Central Piedmont Community College in early January 2017. Kennon retired as the Executive Vice-President and Chief of Staff with the North Carolina Community College System in 2012 and currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Western Carolina University and Education Consultant across various private and public sectors.
President James C. Williamson promoted Maureen Little from Associate Vice-President of NC Works Customized Training to the Vice-President of Economic Development. Under her new purview, Maureen will also acquire oversight of North Carolina BioNetwork and the North Carolina Small Business Center Network, who also welcomes a new Director. Maureen began her work in economic development in 1987 as Director of Business and Industry Services at Stanly Community College, serving her native Union County. After eleven years at the local college level, she joined the North Carolina Community College System as a Regional Director for Economic Development for the Charlotte Region. In 2005, she was promoted to the Senior Regional Director until 2008 when she became the Associate Vice-President.
The North Carolina Small Business Center Network (SBCN) will be under the leadership of Anne Shaw, who has been serving as Interim Director since July 2015. Anne’s background includes seven years in the banking industry and the operation of three family-owned businesses. She has been with Coastal Carolina Community College for 29 years, establishing the Small Business Center program there in September, 1986. Under her leadership, Coastal’s Small Business Center has been recognized with the Excellent Small Business Center Award eight times since the award was established in 2000. In 2013, she received the State Director’s Award and Coastal’s SBC was recognized with the Innovation Award for Programs and Services. The SBCN is one of the nation’s most expansive state funded small business assistance programs and creates or retains over 2,800 jobs each year at a cost of $2,132 per job.
