State Board of Community Colleges Approves Two New Presidents

RALEIGH – The State Board of Community Colleges approved the selection of Dr. Maria Pharr as the president of South Piedmont Community College, replacing Dr. Stanley Sidor, who began his tenure as the new president of Lake-Sumter State College earlier this year. Dr. Pharr will be starting her new role on January 3, 2017 after serving as the Executive Director of BioNetwork and Life Science Initiatives at the System Office since 2014.

The State Board also approved the selection of Dr. Michael Elam as the president of Halifax Community College, replacing Dr. Ervin Griffin, Sr., who will retire on February 1, 2017. Dr. Elam previously served as president of Roanoke-Chowan Community College from 2013-2016 and will begin his tenure at Halifax next year.
