Sindy Martinez

My journey at Pitt Community College began when I realized my job was not taking me to the place I wanted to be in life, nor did I feel passionate about my career. My mom set a good example for me as she was hardworking and loving, and I wanted to do the same for my son. I was not sure if college was right for me, and directly after high school, I begun working to support my son. My family struggled financially from a history of domestic violence within my home, so providing a better future for my son was very important.

When I enrolled at Pitt Community College it felt like the beginning of a new life for us and I knew it would lead to more opportunities. My interest in law started at an early age, through our family’s interactions with lawyers and police offices when confronting the domestic violence in our home. This is one of the many reasons I decided to study Paralegal Technology. In class, I love learning and reading about the real life stories of how the law impacts people’s lives. I know that my history with domestic violence has shaped my life, but it does not define me. When I graduate, I hope to work in a law firm that practices criminal law and work with victims of domestic violence to help them have a better future.
