President of NC Community Colleges Steps Down
RALEIGH – The State Board of the NC Community College System announced today that it has accepted the resignation of Dr. James “Jimmie” C. Williamson from his position as system president, effective September 30.
Scott Shook, chair of the State Board of Community Colleges, said the board will immediately begin a process to identify the next system leader. Chief of Staff Jennifer Haygood will serve as acting president upon Williamson’s departure until a new president is named.
“North Carolina has one of the nation’s strongest community college systems and our future is bright. We remain focused on providing accessible and affordable educational opportunities that strengthen North Carolina’s workforce and economy,” Shook said. “We wish Dr. Williamson well.”
