I walked into Blue Ridge Community College with a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve. What I didn’t expect was the level of encouragement and assistance I’d receive from the faculty.
Coming from a poor family, a college education often seemed unattainable, or at least not suited for me. After a four year enlistment in the Air Force, it took me seven more years to finally decide to work on a Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Since then, I’ve joined several honor societies, received numerous scholarships and a nomination for the Dallas Herring Achievement Award, and maintained a 3.8 GPA while electing to mainly study challenging subjects like Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. Completing the Calculus series here has especially opened my mind to the beautiful world of mathematics.
I plan to transfer to NC State, and will be the first in my family to study a scientific field at a university. Though I’m often relied upon at home, it’s also with their help and support, along with BRCC’s quality instruction, that I’m able to continue forward.
