Jason Phelps
Jason Phelps was in between full-time jobs helping his father-in-law with residential and commercial wiring jobs. It sparked an interest and he thought about pursuing a career as an electrician. After exploring his options, he realized there was a high demand for electricians across the state.
Jason toured Martin Community College campus and spoke with some of the staff and instructors about the electrical program. “They were very helpful and welcoming. I enrolled in the Electrical Systems Technology program at Martin Community College.” Jason considers that making the decision was easy given that “the value of the education you receive at MCC is one of the best investments a person can make,” Jason said.
Throughout his time at MCC, Jason served as a student ambassador and a member of Alpha Beta Gamma Honor Society. As an ambassador, he helped with fundraising events for scholarships offered through Martin Community College’s Foundation Board and recruiting events at local high schools and job fairs. “I’m glad to be able to contribute back to the college and hope to inspire others. I have had an excellent experience here at Martin Community College and would recommend it for anyone.”
Jason graduated on May 10th, with an Associate in Applied Science in Electrical Systems Technology and a 3.9 GPA. He was also selected as the 2019 Academic Excellence Award recipient at Martin Community College.
