Debra Jean Cumbie

A mother who raised her son alone, 2014 was going to be a challenging year for Debra Jean Cumbie.  In May of that year she lost her husband to cancer, and two weeks after his death she lost her job.  She realized that it was time for a change and she needed to chase her dreams of becoming a nurse.  It had been 25 years since her graduation from high school and she was scared, intimidated, and unsure, but she always wanted to be a nurse.

Now she finally has the courage and time to pursue that dream.  It has taken a lot of hard work and perseverance to get to where she is today, but she is proving to herself that she can do it.  As she gets closer to the end of her education journey she knows she will be a confident nurse who is ready to take on the world.  Attending Southwestern Community College has made her realize there is no limit to her potential.
