Grants were awarded from state’s Rural Infrastructure Authority to local communities seeking support for workforce development projects.

As part of the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA)’s approval of $1.85 million in grant funding to support job growth and infrastructure development projects in rural areas across the state, the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) has announced that it will create and deliver customized workforce training programs for nine companies through its NCEdge program.

As a result of these awards, NCEdge will provide training to support the creation of more than 300 new jobs in industries such as software development, manufacturing, and health services. The announcement is the latest commitment from the State of North Carolina’s Department of Commerce to building a more resilient and prosperous future for rural residents.

“The NCEdge program is a vital component of North Carolina’s economic development efforts, ensuring businesses of all scales have access to the skilled workforce they need to grow and evolve within their changing industries,” said John Loyack, Vice President of Economic Development at the System. “We look forward to kicking off these latest rural community employee training projects, with the support of our individual community colleges.”
