Access to Achievement

Access to Achievement is a state-funded IDD workforce training program empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to pursue their education and career goals with confidence.

About Access to Achievement

Access to Achievement began as a pilot program at Brunswick Community College and Catawba Valley Community College. The IDD Pilot Program aimed to convene these two colleges to research best practices and conduct a needs assessment. This included identifying effective programming, wraparound services, outreach and marketing strategies, assisted technology and benefits counseling.

Additionally, the program explored community, state and federal funding resources to facilitate credential attainment, increase employment opportunities and improve overall engagement in college. The pilot program's success laid the foundation for the statewide expansion of Access to Achievement, backed by legislative funding. Today, the program empowers students with IDD across North Carolina to thrive in education, work and life.
