Jonnell Carpenter is the General Counsel for the NC Community College System. She started this role in July 2024 after being the Assistant Legal Counsel at the System Office. Prior to coming to the System Office, Jonnell held roles as the Higher Education Legal Fellow in the Office of University Counsel at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Wallace Public Service Fellow at Campbell Law School. Before becoming an attorney, Jonnell worked in student services at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
Jonnell earned her Bachelor of Arts from Pfeiffer University and Juris Doctor from Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Hawaii.
