Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Sufficient knowledge of clinical experience to fulfill the job duties as listed above.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  1. Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Possess a North Carolina Office of EMS Level I Instructor credential or be able to obtain within 6 months.
  3. Must have an active NC Paramedic certification. 
  4. Have a minimum of 3 years full time field experience (additional experience in EMS supervision/leadership preferred).
  5. Have a minimum of 1 year teaching experience as an instructor (classroom or clinical instruction) in an EMS program (continuing education or curriculum).
  6. Hold or willing to obtain specialty instructor certifications such as NAEMT and AHA courses.
  7. Be knowledgeable concerning current national curricula, national accreditation, national   registration, and the requirements for state and national certification or licensure.

Position Description

General DescriptionThe EMS Instructor is a professional, credentialed faculty responsible for providing quality-learning experiences in curriculum and certificate courses in their area of expertise for all Richmond Community College students. Faculty are responsible for providing learning experiences on the main campus and off-site. Faculty are responsible for but are not limited to planning, organizing, promoting, and teaching appropriate courses, to include online and hybrid, and performing other duties as assigned.

EMS faculty are expected to perform all related duties in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the College, the North Carolina Community College System, and in accordance with any and all accrediting bodies.

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, faculty will educate and train students to gain skills, knowledge and behaviors to support successful entry into the workplace.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Assist in maintaining NCOEMS educational plan.
  2. Teaches students effectively in assigned classes.
  3. Meets classes as scheduled.
  4. Provides students access through posted office hours.
  5. Distributes course requirements and college policy information in a timely manner.
  6. Provides clearly organized and understandable instruction.
  7. Provides adequate and timely feedback and evaluation of assignments.
  8. Maintains a positive attitude in interactions with students and shows a genuine concern for student learning.
  9. Fulfills obligations in student recruiting, advising, orientation, and registration.
  10. Assists in the continual evaluation and enhancement of curricula through the planning process and departmental meetings.
  11. Provides the curriculum office with updated Instructor’s course requirements that reflect expected student learning outcomes.
  12. Submits accurate and complete records and reports in a timely manner in order to provide assessment data for institutional improvement.
  13. Attends and participates in faculty, advisory, and assigned committee meetings designated to improve curriculum programs.
  14. Participates in professional development, including back-to-industry, conference, and workshop activities that lead to professional and institutional advancement.
  15. Be able to teach evening or weekend courses as needed.
  16. Accepts other duties as assigned.
