Achieving the Dream

The Lumina Foundation for Education, a private, independent foundation, strives to help people achieve their potential by expanding access and success in education beyond high school.

"Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count" addresses a national effort to enhance opportunity for the growing number of students for whom community colleges are the point of entry into higher education.  The initiative is a national effort to increase the success of community college students, particularly those in groups that have been under-served in higher education.

As the name implies, Achieving the Dream is an initiative that aims to help more students reach their individual goals, which may include obtaining a better job, earning a community college certificate or degree, or attaining a bachelor's degree.

North Carolina is one of five states spearheading this national effort.  Participating colleges are Durham Technical Community College, Guilford Technical Community College, Martin Community College, and Wayne Community College.

Vonna Viglione is directing this statewide initiative from the System Office with the guidance of Dr. Delores A. Parker, Vice President of Academic and Student Services.  (E-mail Vonna Viglione at viglionev@nccommunitycolleges.edu )
